Resveratrol from Japanese knotweed

Polygonum cuspidatum

I want to introduce you to a powerful plant medicine called resveratrol. It’s a little confusing to explain due to the name of the plant and plant components involved. But it’s not hard to learn!

You’ve heard of resveratrol….years ago it was all over the news as being good for heart health and how the French were benefiting from all of the red wine they drink.

Resveratrol is a component found in many plants, including grapes. However, a powerful form of it is found in the roots of a highly invasive plant called Japanese knotweed (Polygonum cuspidatum.)

This is something I regularly recommend to my clients for their pets (and they can use for themselves!)
Resveratrol can enhance the effects of antibiotics making them more effective.

Other conditions that can be helped by resveratrol:
  • Gingivitis
  • Arthritis
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Heart conditions
  • Cognitive issues and brain function
  • Kidney disease
  • Neurological regeneration
  • Anti-cancer
  • Non-specific endocrine health
  • Lyme Disease
  • Anti-viral (think lyme disease, herpes virus, etc…)

This is one study on the Antiviral Activity of Resveratrol agains Human and Animal Viruses.  I give this to my pets if they have been bitten by a tick and I’ve been taking it the past 2 weeks to help ward off the COVID-19 virus.  See below for more on this amazing plant.

Japanese knotweed root freshly dug

I was able to dig some of the Japanese knotweed root late this past fall and made a tincture. The root was pretty hard to cut up once I dug it out of the ground.
In about 6 weeks I’m hoping to have a medicinal tincture I can compare to some of the supplements I buy.
But you don’t have to dig and wait….there are reputable products that are ready to use!
Resvantage: this is a micro encapsulated capsule made by a reputable company i’ve known for years thanks to one of my clients!  This herbal comes in cat, dog, human and horse doses. For maintenance use the species appropriate product. If your pet has a chronic condition you can easily level up to the next species to increase the dose.
This can be hard to give to cats. The capsule can easily be put in warmed food to melt the capsule encouraging them to eat it.
I don’t typically recommend one specific product BUT given current medical circumstances I want to point you in this direction to start. The website has A LOT of fact-based information for you to look at.
